Folk art encompasses art produced from an indigenous culture or by peasants or other labouring tradespeople. In contrast to fine art, folk art is primarily utilitarian and decorative rather than purely aesthetic. You’ll see some stunning examples in our range below. We have a wonderful collection of bold patterned chest in vibrant colours, chests of drawers, folk benches, marriage coffers, marriage armoires and dowry boxes in an array of styles. The marriage armoires, in particular, are one of our favourite collections. Ranging in style, age and size, these armoires originate from early 19th century (some 18th century), Northern Central Europe, all offering a wonderful collaboration of character and history. Our collection of dowry boxes and marriage chests certainly make a statement, whether placed in a hallway or living room for extra storage space or at the end of a bed to store extra blankets or throws. We absolutely adore the artwork of these pieces, and so will you! With beautiful floral designs in vibrant and bold colours, many of these chests were discovered in Central Transylvania from the 19th century after being handed down among generations of Hungarian tribes. The folk benches look terrific in a kitchen or conservatory setting – depicting art similar of the marriage armoires and dowry boxes: vibrant, Dutch-inspired flower painted armoires of Western Germany. Whatever space you’re shopping for today, you’ll definitely make a statement or originality with one of our folk pieces. There is a story and a history behind each of these pieces. Bring something into your home that nobody else has. Read less.
