Here at Lesser Spotted, we know how important it is to choose new stylish home furniture, and just how tricky it can be. Let’s face it, furniture is the biggest part of your decor and possibly the hardest to switch out from time to time. One usually doesn’t have a collection of vintage furniture waiting to be pulled out when they feel the need for change, so the furniture you choose will probably stay in place for several years. The good news is; we can provide an endless variety of styles to choose from. Vintage furniture, antique furniture, modern furniture - it’s all here. The hard part is choosing what works best with your space and your lifestyle.

When thinking about purchasing new furniture for your home, you definitely want to analyse the space and decide on how big or small you want the pieces to be. It can be tough with smaller spaces, especially if you enjoy entertaining, to fit in enough seating without cluttering the room. As a general rule, the trick is to make sure that there is enough space for safe passage to and from the room as well as within it, but also to visually trick the mind into seeing a bigger space using the vintage furniture you choose as well as the placement. This goes for any room in the house. You want to choose furniture that does not sit flat on the ground. It is best to find pieces that have thin legs to prop them up (if you really love a piece that doesn’t come with legs you can purchase legs yourself and attach them later). Having the furniture off the floor gives the illusion of more floor space.

Also, you don’t have to be an interior decorator or designer to have your home looking stylish and welcoming. Think about the purpose of each room and what kind of activities will be taking place in there. As you do this, you’ll already have an idea of what you will need for your lifestyle.

Next, try and pick a theme for each room. If picking a theme is too difficult, think about what kind of mood you want the room to have. For example, if you want your bedroom to feel relaxing and calming, why not consider vintage furniture that is built primarily for comfort in calming fabrics, prints and more neutral colours? In contrast, you may want the family room where all the entertaining happens to be a bit more fun and lively. In this room you would want furniture that is comfortable with vibrant, contrasting colours and bold patterns.

Once you’ve narrowed down any size restrictions due to space and what kind of theme or mood you want for each room, go out there and pick furniture that you fall in love with. Have fun with it and let your personality shine.
