"Summer Loving"

Interior Trends for Summer 2018

After battling it out through the Beast from the East, and now that our Easter eggs have gone down a treat, the team at Lesser-Spotted are having dreams of summer – and we can’t wait to start brightening the place up!

There are definitely some creative trends and ideas floating around at the moment – plenty to inspire a slight tweaking or even a complete redesign if it’s time!

Metallic Wallpaper

If your walls are looking tired and un-loved, or if you just fancy a change of colour to liven a space up a little, why not try something completely new?

Metallic wallpaper has become a slight obsession for designers over the last few years, and it’s easy to see why. Metallic wallpaper has the tendency to make light shine around the room, reflecting the sunshine off of the metallic pigments in the paper.

That should make the place sparkle!

Floral Patterns

Floral patterns are back and better than ever! These designs are obviously a classic, finding their way in and out of fashion over recent years, but floral has upped its game and it seems it’s here to stay.

Opposed to the usual vintage-look we’re so used to, designers have switched over from cool; pastel tones and brightened their pieces with bold and vibrant colours and patterns. Not only are they eye-catching and stylish, they really transform a space with an injection of colour and good old summer vibes – we love it!

The first thing we think of when it comes to updating your interior is colour. You want something new, unique, but also something to fit your existing scheme without the complete revamp.

This season we’re talking soft pastel shades to ease into summer, brightening the place up without overwhelming the space. At the moment, it seems to be blush pink, burnt oranges and soft greens. And, boy, doesn’t it look fab? We’re just loving delicate lilac tones for bedrooms and bathrooms, contrasting to peach colours in kitchens and main living spaces.

Why not try something new this season and add some colour into your life?

Statement Art

We’ve touched briefly about the new paint job to be planned this summer, but we haven’t disclosed the finishing touches.

Of course there’s nothing new about wall art – even cavemen would get creative and produce hand-carved drawings on the walls in their home. Statement art, though, is a trend that has been growing over the last few years and it really is one of those things that will stay in fashion for many years to come. And despite the fact we refer to this as ‘statement art’, this is a form of décor that can be as bold or as subtle as you would like it to be.

Take framed scarves, for example. Unique, original, stylish. The design, however, can be whatever tone or pattern you desire. These look great hung over a vintage sideboard or main wall to create a feature wall or focal point in the room.

If you prefer more subtle, but still want something original, why not a stylish signed print? Prints look great hung alone or as part of a series. Our signed Katie Cardew collection looks great anywhere and adds a delicate splash of colour to its surroundings – the perfect finishing touch.

Or, if you’re looking for something that will really make a statement, why not consider a vintage piece having been restored? Sort of like our bearded lady hanging or vintage advertising signs – great original pieces that are full of character.

And speaking of character, we’re going wild for our new additions of animal head sculptures – and we’re expecting dozens of orders come summer time!

Our willow head sculptures are completely woven by hand – inspired and evolved from traditional basket weaving techniques. Contemporary and unique, they are both life-size and realistic – emitting movement, art, expression and personality. Who knew a basic willow rod could venture into something of such beauty and form?

What do you think? Do you fancy going all out this season and feeling a safari theme?
